corrects the following problems which can arise in the released version of Canadian Payroll)
Retrieving Archived Employees
The January 1998 Canadian Payroll Update Notice instructed you to retrieve all archived
employees before converting to the latest version of Canadian Payroll (6.0O), then to
re-archive those employees.
If you did not follow the instructions in the Update Notice:
- You may be unable to retrieve archived employee records.
- You may see the message "Employee number is not on file."
- When entering an employee number, the improper name of the employee may appear, and the
new employee number field displays a different employee number than the one entered.
You may be able to use the program on this PTF disk to retrieve the archived employees.
This PTF will work if you have not added any new employees to the archive file after
installing version 6.0O. If you have added new employees to the archive file after
installing 6.0O, you may still be able to retrieve them.
If the PTF cannot retrieve all the employees in the archived file, the program will
inform you which employees are missing: "Employee XXXXXX not found" followed by:
"Archive data was not compatible with this version of Canadian Payroll. File has been
corrected, but is missing employee(s)."
In this case, you can retrieve the archived employees from the last backup you made
before installing the version 6.0O tax update, as follows.
To retrieve archived employees from a backup:
- Make a backup of your 6.0O data.
- Restore your 6.0N data into a different directory, such as \RETRIEVE.
- Re-install Canadian Payroll 6.0N and point it to the restored data.
(To install, insert the Product 1 diskette in the drive and start ACCPAC Plus. At the
Start list, press F3, then choose Install Programs from the System Manager menu.)
- In Canadian Payroll 6.0N, retrieve those employees who are missing.
- Re-install the Canadian Payroll 6.0O program and the 6.0O PTF disk.
- Convert the restored data, by starting Payroll with the data in \RETRIEVE.
- Make a backup copy of the PREMP*.xxx files from your current data (where xxx is your
data extension) by copying PREMP*.xxx to PREMP*.BAK.
- Copy the newly converted PREMP*.xxx files in \RETRIEVE to your current 6.0O data
directory.
- Archive those employees who were missing from the archive file.
- To restore the original employee files, go to the directory where you store your
original data and type COPY PREMP*.BAK PREMP*.xxx
- You can now retrieve the employees you require.
